Interview with Young Mystic Intro: I’m Ahmad and I would like to welcome you to Globalcom 45 News. I have with me today, “Young Mystic”. Thank you for being here with me Mystic. Q: What does your stage name stand for? A: My stage name is Young Mystic. Its pretty funny because a lot of people have asked me what the whole deal is with the name and asking if i think I have some sort of mystical powers. The name 'MYSTIC' is actually an acronym which stands for "Many Years Staying True In Christ". I wanted to have a name that was not only catchy and appealing but also had a significant meaning to it and sums up the type of person I am. Having faith and staying true not only in Christ but yourself is in my eyes the key to success and longevity. I feel it is the perfect name. Q: How old are you? A: I am 19, ill be 20 in June Q: Where did you grow up and where are you presently located? A: I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona which is where I still live, well Tempe to be exact. Q: What was your childhood like as a kid? Were you a good kid or bad kid? A: I would say I had an all around good childhood, probably as normal as it gets. I played about every sport imaginable from soccer, tennis, golf, and my favorite; basketball. I would say I was a good kid but I did seem to get in my fair share of trouble...[laughs]...I always managed to get out of it though. I used my cute kid charm. Q: Were you a momma’s boy or daddy’s little man? A: No doubt I was my dad's little man. Always got my way and he always had my back, both my parents do. I love my parents. Q: Are you single and if not who’s the lucky person? A: [laughs] Oh man, this has to be the most popular question! Yes, I am very much single. At this point in my career I really don't feel the need to be tied up in a relationship. I definitely am looking for that special girl though, because I plan on having somebody later on, just not at this moment. Im always open for any beautiful ladies to change my mind...[laughs]. Q: I saw some of your pictures on MySpace where you were standing next to some people and you seem really tall. How tall are you? A: Haha ya alot of people are suprised by my height. Im 6'3" Q: How long have you been rapping? A: Hard to really say, I had started a few years back but this is before I had a stage name or even recorded in a studio. i was just making songs with pre-made beats from garageband and using the built in mic. I took a break for about a year and then really decided to take it serious. So I would say about 2 years. Q: What made you decide to become a rapper? A: I was told I couldn't do it. That really pissed me off and had me motivated to prove them wrong. But once I started really focusing I began to fall in love with the creating process. It also comes a little easier for me because my freshman year in high school I wrote poetry and did open mics, so I was able to transfer that style of rhythmical performance into a musical art form. Rap stands for Rhythmically Applied Poetry. Q: What about your style do you feel makes you unique from other rappers? A: My confidence. I am probably the most confident rapper in the game. Some might mistake it for arrogance or being conceited but its just a swagger that has to be flaunted in order to last. If you don't have confidence in yourself you can't expect anyone else to! Also my style as far as clothes. When i talk about my gear game or my flyness I really AM! As you can see [laughs] Q: If you had to choose one rapper, who would you say your style most resembles? A: Thats a tough one, I've heard comparisons from Mims to Bow Wow, to even Travis McCoy. I would have to say I pride my self on being Young Mystic. Q: Who are the people that influenced your life the most growing up? A: As far as how I live my life I would definitely have to say my birthmother whom I have never actually met. From what I know she is a very strong woman and highly intelligent, I am dying to meet her. Of course my family has a huge impact on me. Q: What artist would you say you consider yourself to be a fan of? A: As of late I'd have to say Charles Hamilton Q: Who are a few of the artist you would like to work with? A: Charles Hamilton of course, Pleasure P, Michael Jackson, Asher Roth, Drake, Cassie, Kanye West, The Dream, Weezy, Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Akon and I have to work with Ryan Leslie, he is a genius. As far as producers id say Jermaine Dupri definitely, Brian Cox, Scott Storch, Timbaland, Pharrell, 9th Wonder, and Swizz Beats. Q: Have you had a chance to work with any well known artist and if so who are they? A: Oh man, A producer I work with out in Vegas works with this artist that I was actually supposed to collaborate with not too long ago but they ran into some legal issues. Chris brown. That would have been huge but its nothing to dwell on. Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years as far as the rap game goes? A: Hmm....I see myself having one at least one grammy, taking over the market and redefining the entire game. Q: What are your views on our new President and how do you feel about politics? A: OBAMA! OBAMA! [laughs]. Man I am 100 percent for our president and not because hes black either. I really feel that change is coming to America that is desperately needed, especially after these past 8 years. We just have to be patient because he was left with a lot of junk to clean up! Q: Did you vote in this past election? A: Yezzir! My first and most meaningful voting experience. Q: How do you feel about the Chris Brown and Rihanna incident? A: It is really an unfortunate situation. I am a fan of both artists music. I mean I don't want to get into their business even though it is shoved in our faces by TMZ and gossip sites on the daily. They are both young and relationships can get out of hands at times. I am really dissappointed in Chris for hitting Rihanna. You never hit a woman no matter the situation. It sucks because I was a big fan, and it doesnt look too good for his career right now. I just hope they work it out which it seems they have, and I pray for both of them, like I said they are young and human. Its life Q: Do you consider yourself a role model? A: Thats a good question. I have never thought of myself in that light before, simply because I still have people I look up to and I am still young. But I do feel I have the power to be a positive role model for the youth; i should be doing a lot of school tours. Q: What makes a person a good role model in your eyes? A: Just someone who is genuine, well rounded and giving a positive, constructive path for kids to follow. Q: Have you had any adversities, I mean, as far as people hating on you and if so how did you handle it? A: [laughs] Yes I have had plenty of that. I don't think there is any artist out there that hasn't had their fair share of haters. I really used to be hurt by it and offended; let it get to me, but now I have grown a lot and come to realize that there are always going to be people that don't like you for whatever reason. Whether it be jealousy, an insecurity within themselves or just pure hatred. People are always going to try to bring someone down who is seemingly going somewhere with their life or doing something positive. When I read blogs I expect there to be negative things and even when there is positive things that can be bad too because I could get big headed. That is why i feel the internet is the life and death of hip hop. I really just don't let any of it effect me, and just keep doing what I do because I know there is an audience out there that is supporting and wants to see me succeed. I make music for them not the haters. [laughs] Q: What is one thing you consider to be your most genuine quality, something that you want the world to know about you? A: I am very caring and passionate about helping out those less fortunate, such as the children in northern uganda who are suffering. I try my best to support the invisible children foundations as much as possible. Q: I’ve listened to your music and your flow is crazy. I really like it. What is your inspiration and who is the person behind your music? A: Thanks a lot I really appreciate that. My inspiration in my music is really just giving the people what they want to hear. I often times play the role of the listener or consumer and think about what I would want to listen to. Life experiences definitely cater to a majority of my music. I have a few joints about leaving a relationship to purse music, one about my biological father abandoning my mother when I was a child. The person behind the music is who I am that people might not see at first. Music lets me speak what I may have trouble speaking otherwise. Q: Do you have any help writing your lyrics or is that all you? A: All me! Q: Do you have any future projects you’re working on you would like us to know about? A: I am currently working on my first mixtape "Next in Line" which will be out real soon, Im just making sure I put out quality, not trying to rush anything. Other than that Im just working on more songs, doing shows, and trying to put together the album. Q: I really appreciate you doing this interview with me. I listened to your commentary on Soulja Boy, you are really well spoken. Would you consider doing anchor for me? I have a lot of positions open such as politics, economy, international, sports, science, legal, technology and a host of others. You can get back with me later if you’d like to think about it. So I found this video on youtube today of an artist whos career ive been following for awhile since he was on 106 & park about a year ago. I dont get how he is still unsigned because he is one of the most talented R&B cats out now. But i think it has to do with his setbacks like his near fatal car accident and fighting a deadly disease. BOOOO!!! This movie was absolute garbage, trash, vomit, anything repulsive you can think of this move was that! I was waiting every scene to see if something interesting was going to happen, or even something that was going to progress the story line. Whats happened to scary movies these days? Its just a whole bunch of scenes that have random things popping out to try and make you jump. All they do is cast some pretty faces to draw peoples interest but that always leads to horrible acting (in most cases). Whatever happened to the classic horror films that had good plots and were creepy instead of this fake suspense sh*t that is so obvious that its not even scary. The only thing "good" about this film was Meagan Good! too sexy! of course she has to die in it tho...wtf. Its as if they were trying too hard but werent trying hard enough at the same time..lol All in all this is a movie you should save your time and money and avoid. 1 star (for the sexy white girl and Meagan)

*On my myspace page but I felt the need to post it on here* Everyday I wake up and go to sleep with the same motive, which is to get signed, become famous, sell millions of records and tour the world. Each day I think about how I'm going to do this and how I can become better as an artist. From studying the greats in hip-hop to the new school in hip-hop. Analyzing Stage performances, studio performances, interviews, and fan interaction. I don't and will never imitate, I merely take what artists do and try to better what they do in what I portray. I am finding that a lot of great artists are great because they do not try to be like the next person, they just are real with who they are and their fan base is drawn towards their "realness" as an artist. I am determined to prove that I can be one of the greats in the game just through my own style and swagger. I've learned that especially in todays generation there is more hate than ever and you can't let what people say change how you want to be seen as an individual or an artist. If you just be true to yourself and have faith in God you are destined to fulfill every goal and aspiration you desire. Haters are merely jealous of what you have and what they wish they had; mostly because they can never have it. i just soak it in and keep my eye on the prize. If I or any artist in the industry was to listen to every hater and let it affect them, they would not have a successful or long career by any means. My main focus is to give the people what they want to hear but not change who I am. When i receive positive feedback from my music, that is when I want to make more and to improve so that the fans will keep wanting more! If you are a fan of me and have been from day one, know that I appreciate you and hope you will stay with me on this journey to stardom. Many times people just hop on the bandwagon once you reach a certain level of notoriety in the public eye and jump right back off when you're not. As an unsigned artist you get an enormous amount of support and positive feedback, but once you are signed you get even more hatred simply due to a mixture of jealousy and high expectations. Let me tell you, no one is perfect so haters can stop acting like they are better than the next person. I am a very humble person and although I am very boastful in my music I am down to earth. I simply have a high confidence level in myself because If you dont believe in yourself you can't expect anyone else to! When I become famous I plan to give a significant amount of my money to the invisible children foundation to help the children in Northern Uganda who are suffering from a war and have no sufficient schools. I plan to visit there and help build schools and homes, there is no reason for what is going on over there and there must be an end to this! I woke up today realizing that last night wasnt a dream thank God. Haha last night we went to E4 just like every thursday, and we always see the same krusty ass girls....but this time there was one FINE ass girl in VIP and I had to holla at her. Luckily I did, shes 21 perfect frame, smile, personality (lemme stop). Anyways she doesnt live out here which isnt surprising, but she is here for Christmas and is moving back in May..yezzir. I was lucky enuff to get the digits cuz the kid got game like Nintendo. Me and her are going out tonight to see Seven Pounds which should be a dope movie even though I dont get the whole idea of it lol. Well Christmas is a few days away and today I went to a Nursing Home and sang Christmas carols, rapped, and danced for them. Seeing the joy on their faces and praise they gave me when I was done makes me realize what making music is all about...ENTERTAINING. When ppl feel good after watching you perform it lets you know that all the work you put in isnt going unnoticed and is appreciated. Alot of times artists get caught up in the money, fame, and glamour when they forget about the most important thing.....the music. Ok so Ive been asked alot what label I want to be signed to. Well ever since 50 cent joined the label and even well b4 that, Ive always wanted to be on Interscope. This doesnt mean that I will automatically sign if offered, it all depends on whats best for me. The reasoning behind this is because Interscope is probably one of the smartest labels on earth. I mean if you look at its major success stories and the money fluctuating in and out of that place its mind boggling. A big reason i am all for interscope is because of the boss man over there Mr. Jimmy Iovine. He is pretty much a genius when it comes to running a label, i mean he is more than just a bussiness man he recognizes "real" talent and what people can offer to the industry and jumps on it. Prime examples are the signing two years back of the phenomenon known as Soulja Boy Tell'em. Now you maybe saying to urself "wtf, he aint no damn phenomenon!" but the truth is he is and Jimmy and Collipark were smart enough to see it. Im not trying to sit here and lie like the kid is Gods gift to hip-hop because he is not even close to that, but he is different and had a package with the whole dance or whatever. Well let me get to the real reason I like Jimmy's work and decisions over at Interscope. He recently or is in the process of signing Actor/Rapper Aubrey "Drake" Graham. this dude has proven himself as a rapper and is way ahead of alot of cats in the game. Coming from the show degrassi alot of people were like, "oh this dude needs to stick to acting" without even giving 2 seconds to listen to what he has to offer to hip-hop. With the signing of Drake it is obvious Jimmy knows good talent. Not only is he signing him he also signed this dude named Charles Hamilton. When I first heard about this guy, who is one of Dj Skees artists (shouts to Skee) I was like "who da hell is this kid" just like he said he expected people to say. He has a very different sound and is infatuated with sonic the hedgehog. After just seeing that I was like wow whatever this dude is weird and moved on. Then out of nowhere he disses Soulja Boy and this is when I was like "ok i need to listen to this guys stuff". After listening to him and looking past what i preceived as "weird" I realize that this dude is raw and is a really dope emcee. He to me is going to be one of the best rappers in the industry and Im saying this now before the fame and exposure comes, so im not on the bandwagon which many will be on in a few months. He has been compared to Kanye West and others but he is his own artist. He grew up using drugs and never really did anything but music because that was his only way of expression. I really like dis dude because he is nothing but "real" in his music and doesnt give a f*ck what ppl think. One of the main things that really intrigued me about him as an artist is that he actual "freestyles" unlike most every other artists who rap prewritten material at a radio station and claims it to be "off the top". Not only is his stuff off the top, it is dope! Almost every label imaginable had turned him down because they couldnt find a way to "market" him. Well Jimmy saw the vision and also heard the music which is what it should all really be about...signing artists for their "music". Well Christmas is right around the corner, very unexpectedley. Today was a long day, didnt do much but just write, trying to get more songs done and find myself as an artist. Pretty much just tryna get better and better. Tonight we went to my brothers house and had dinner with his wife and hungout with his newborn daughter. Its kind of weird thinking of my brother as a dad but hey thats life. We had some bomb ass pizza from this place that ive never heard of. they make it for you then you bake it at your house, I gotta get the name of it lol. I dont know if Im going to LA on thursday anymore to perform because of some issues, but im not trippin cuz there will be plenty more.
